CANDIDATE MICHAEL McGRATH for election in the Callan-Thomastown-Graignamanagh Electoral Area for Kilkenny County Council supports direct repayment of any customs duties paid on agricultural produce by farmers and agri-food producers.
It’s been provisionally costed to amount to 1.1 Billion Euro a year and there are prospects that the EU will finance most of it.
Michael McGrath, originally from a farming background himself in Carrickbeg, insists that all Irish farmers must be compensated, he says that Ireland has been paying a lot more every year in financing all the mass immigration into Ireland and that now it’s time a lot of this money was transferred over to compensate the farmers of this country fully for any of the losses they would incur because of Brexit, which is none of our fault!
He will place this on the agenda immediately should he be elected to the Council on May 24th with the help of other agricultural councillors being re-elected.
Michael McGrath warns that if farming goes down then this country goes down with it. That cannot be allowed to happen under any circumstances, he concludes.
