The funeral arrangements for the late Dr Laurence Forristal  Bishop Emeritus of Ossory and former Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin.

He died October 10th 2018 (peacefully) at St. Luke’s Hospital. Deeply regretted by his sisters Kathleen, Nan and Mary, brother-in-law Eamon, sisters-in-law Maureen and Geraldine, nephews, nieces and his extended family, Bishop Dermot Farrell, Bishop Emeritus Seamus Freeman, priests, religious and the people of the Diocese of Ossory  and all who met him in the course of his priestly and episcopal ministries.

Reposing at the Chapel at St. Columba’s Hospital, Thomastown from 2p.m. on Friday (Oct. 12th) followed by removal to St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny (arriving at 7 p.m.). Concelebrated Requiem Mass on Saturday (Oct. 13th) at 12 noon followed by burial in the Cathedral grounds.

As his photographer for 26 years he told me he loved performing confirmations at the cathedral on Saturdays.  He was a man who knew and loved meeting and chatting with everybody after the confirmations.

He was the most charismatic and dynamic bishop of our time in Kilkenny. As such he was well and truly loved. he was a fabulous conversationalist and a great wit. But he was also a man of great faith in God and vision of time to come.

I got to know him so well over a quarter of a century as a confirmation photographer. I remember chatting with him in Clondalkin where I had photographed him with all the families as Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin – that was in 1980.  He said he’d love to come home to Kilkenny.  How time has flown as he now finally comes home to his beloved cathedral on Saturday.
