As his photographer for 26 years he told me he loved performing confirmations at the cathedral on Saturdays. He was a man who knew and loved meeting and chatting with everybody after the confirmations.
He was the most charismatic and dynamic bishop of our time in Kilkenny. As such he was well and truly loved. he was a fabulous conversationalist and a great wit. But he was also a man of great faith in God and vision of time to come.
I got to know him so well over a quarter of a century as a confirmation photographer. I remember chatting with him in Clondalkin where I had photographed him with all the families as Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin – that was in 1980. He said he’d love to come home to Kilkenny. How time has flown as he now finally comes home to his beloved cathedral on Saturday.
